Cordless heatguns, anyone used or have one?
Posted by Jeff on May 19, 2021 at 10:06 pmJust wondering if anyone has bought or used a cordless heat gun?
looked at a few online now and cant make my mind up if its worth the cost because they are not cheap! but I have always fancied one from long before they were invented. now they are here I’m in two minds. must be my wallet thinking for me! 🤣

How much are they? I bought a gas one years ago for some small bits I had to heat but only used it a couple of times, cost me £100.

ive got the exact 1 …nowhere nr as good as a powered 1 but we got it for them odd times you need a bit of heat saves time and also sometimes power isnt at hand easy on some jobs we do

Hi Jeff
We’ve got the Milwauke version.
Overall we are glad we got it – its saved us a few times when we’ve been remote from power and the location prevented us from using the generator for a corded gun. We sometimes use it in the workshop on vans when the power cable is getting in the way.
We have 9 amp hour batteries and these last 18 minutes continual use. Unless you wanted to bake in a wrap then you wouldn’t be using them continuously anyway and the batteries seem to last a decent amount of time doing ad-hoc heating. The maximum heat and and the airstream force aren’t as good as a corded version but if you are realistic about what they can do then they are good.
Cheers
Dave

Same as David…. useful bit of kit to have in the van on installs. Definitely no go for wrapping though.

there are lots of cordless heat guns available. below are just a few…
I have one, and its brand new and hardly used. do I use it. nop. do I need it? yes!
they serve a purpose in as much as they provide about 20 minutes of hot air but at a very slow pressure. more like a very hot yawn!
when you need heat to remove vinyl or just apply some heat to an exterior vinyl application to promote a good adhesion bond, then you definitely want one of these for remote locations where power points are not available. certainly NOT for wrapping with though. -
We have a couple of the Milwaukee heat guns, never go anywhere without them!

I bought a second hand Dewalt one from eBay for a job I was doing with no power option. I thought it was great for what it was, but the battery ran out pretty quickly and I didn’t have a spare so I was beat!
I think they are great tools to have and I wouldn’t sell it, but I don’t think they should be bought with the view of working with one daily. it just doesn’t meet the strength or life of a plugged in one. -
thanks for the feedback so far everyone.
does anyone know if one is longer lasting than the others?
i didn’t think about the time they will actually last and if its 20 minutes. well that’s not great is it? 🤨i guess the real benefit is for small remote site jobs, am i right in thinking thats what everyone is using them for?

I would say that is all I would use one for, Jeff.
the heat gets to a decent temperature, but it is just the actual power blowing behind it is extremely weak.as I said, always wanted one and wouldn’t be without it.
