I have a job that will take a fair while, we are going to produce some thing using 1-2mm thick clear polycarbonate which will be wrapped around something.. we are talking large size 1 – 2mtr per print.

It is a digital print then backed in white, then folded per item.

So, a: we could get a UV digital printer then print inside and hope the opacity of the white is strong enough to work.

b: we could print on our JV3 directly onto this (or on clear vinyl) and apply, then ‘fload coat’ white onto the back (some kind of 54" white roll on a laminator maybe?)

c: we could silk screen print white onto the back of every 2x1mtr section, would take a bit of time but strong white.

d: we could spray white ink onto the back of polycarb with the digital print, then leave to dry.

Very tricky to work out, but this is a big order and we need to try and make best use of whats out there and be quick with the order. We could buy some £70K printer but we need to make sure we have had a look at our options first as its very expensive.

I am wondering about spraying ink directly onto the back of the sheet then maybe a mini UV dryer to cure it (if such a thing exists).
What about IR dryers, could I do that at speed?

How well could I transfer a roll of white vinyl across a laminator onto the back of another roll? will it crease?

Dave I do a lot of reverse printing on my Grenadier onto clear and then back off with white, and that’s at 1370 wide with no problems. We don’t use any heat and it has only been on 5mt lengths but it works ok. It gives a really nice white to the finished stickers.

is that not the same as laminating a print.
any sort of spraying i had trouble in maintaining a even density although it looked even with any sort of back light it showed up.
reverse printing on to clear and backing 2 mt lengths should not be a problem.
dont know about printing direct then covering.

i would screenprint dave, you know yourself how less time consuming it is and if you have the equipment at the right size to do the job correctly..go for it 😀 also think how low the costs would be doing so, you probably know that anyway 😉
