Banner hemming Edging advice please?
Sorry this was another thing i wanted to ask… Banners, i have only done a few so far, but am i doing something wrong in the hemming with the tape, as all the taped edges seem to crease/ crumple a lot. See the attached pic

We’ve been having the same problem for years. Seems to be the nature of the beast with tape. I just try now to wrap them really loosely.

this is common, and there could be several reasons why you are getting this.
are you rolling the hem after you make the fold using a rubber roller?
not doing this is a common mistake. it helps bond the banner to the hemming tape. which is sometimes very important because some banners can be rougher than others on the rear and not adhere good.how you roll the banner up and the time it remains rolled is important also.
If it is rolled too tight it will create this issue with the hem. often much worse!
if it is rolled for a long time, again it will create this issue, if not worse.roll the banner up with the print/graphics on the outside.
roll it loosely. so the most inner part is at least the width of a cardboard core tube. i.e. 100mmDo not sit anything on a rolled banner, ever!
looking at your banner, i would “guess” it is how you have rolled it that has caused this.
why? because look at the screenshot i have attached. you will see where i have marked it that these repeated areas are where the majority of the creases are appearing in the hem. they would not appear in the same place both sides if it wasn’t how it had been rolled or stored.as i say, you could tick all the boxes in doing the right thing and the real issue is the tape is not bonding well enough to a rough rear side of banner material, or your tape isn’t good enough.

Hi Robert… thanks for all that. And yeah from what you have said I guilty for a couple of them. I dont use a roller as I don’t own one, i was just folding over by hand then flattening out with a squegee. I did roll it up around a paper core, but it was prob a 50mm core and not 100mm. So I shall get a rubber roller and try your suggestions and see how I get on.

You can buy rubber rollers online or in some DIY places.
You can get them for sealing wallpaper from B&Q but they are not the best quality and you need to lean firm. which can affect the cheap ones pretty fast. been there done it.
Don’t buy the foam rollers, they are pointless.
