  • Any Godaddy users? – help needed please

Apologies in advance for the half baked question – I have no knowledge of our website at all so I may not be able to answer any follow up questions but the reason I’m asking is that I’m struggling to believe what I have been told

Initial ramble over – we got someone in to set up a godaddy site with online shop – We are being told that there is no way of doing a ‘global’ price increase on our items i.e. lifting all prices by 5%

It seems any price increases have to be done manually and separately for each individual item

    Any help/advice very much appreciated

As I understand it – Go Daddy is a web hosting site, but any number of packages could be used to create the actual shop site. Cubecart is one of them, and this allows global price increases and discounting for sales etc.

It has more to do with the type of shop software that has been used to create it in the first place.

I would think a decent website shop should be able to apply a price increase right across the store, or at least within product groups. They can do sales discounts etc, so ide imagine they can increase a price by a percentage too!
However, as I say, the software dictates this. If you look at how a "paypal" button works. (not paypal shop)
The button contains the product name and price etc within the code. the button is then placed on any sort of web page, when clicked it takes you to a paypal payment.
These buttons are used strictly for shops or sites with limited amount of products to sell. so its not a big deal to update each. but if you have lots of products in a store, then this type of setup would not be the option to go for from the off!

i have never used GoDaddy for anything, so i do not know if this is a typical of shop software of theirs within their packages but i cannot see why in this day it would not have a full eCommerce solution options.

To be honest, I would have thought your web guy would have brought this top your attention before even starting the shop. he should have advised you on available eCommerce options if he could see you have a vast list of products options.

    UPDATE
Had a quick look… these videos may help you. Seem like pretty dynamic stores. That doesn’t mean im right though…
personally, I would just call GoDaddy support or email them from your sites admin panel and ask the question?

Many thanks for that Rob, just to explain a little further…..

It was actually an employee who set the shop up for us but he is no longer with us.

He had various conversations with Godaddy about controlling the prices globally but was told it could not be done…it’s not that I’m disbelieving him, it’s just I can’t believe something fundamental like that is not an option.

I just got involved in a conversation yesterday and was hoping if I asked on here I might have got a ‘yes it can be done’ or a no it can’t be done’ answer

I’ll take a look at the vids….thanks again

    Neil,

Thank you so much for that…

It didn’t matter how many times I googled the subject, using different terminology each time, I just didn’t come across that page at all

    Thanks again,

    Glenn
