  • Advice on re-installing Signlab fonts please?

Posted by Nick Harper on June 14, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Please please can someone help me.

We have just installed a new PC (Windows 7).

At the time of re-installing Signlab onto the new PC the guy who did it chose not to install all the VEF fonts etc that come on the seperate disc.

Now, when i try to open certain files, Signlab says it can’t locate the necessary font.

I have installed them from the disc but for it to work the disc always has to be in the D drive.

Is there any way to install all the fonts in the respective folders that means i won’t have to have the disc inserted.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thanks,
    Nick

Hi Peter. I dragged and dropped, but not to the right location by the looks of things.

If i don’t have the disc inserted it won’t pick up certain VEF fonts present in a certain file even though i can select the same font from the text window

you could try File/Install Fonts/ Reset.
The Install Fonts/Search and have it search the hard driver and not the CD

Copy the vef fonts to a folder on your hard drive, just call it sl fonts, then install from SL check all the font types. and point to the drive letter. sl will find all the font on that drive and you can install all, or select which ones you need

The font paths are saved in the Signlab.ini file.
Old jobs will still be looking for the original fontpath directories.
It’s always a good idea to back up the .ini file for just this reason.
Before making any changes, go to the Signlab program folder and backup the Signlab8/9.ini file.
Whilst in Explorer, note down the directory path where the fonts have been saved to.
Open Signlab select About Signlab then hold down ALT and press I on the keyboard.
The .ini file will open (or double click in Explorer).
Scroll down until you see FONTPATH:
In this list should be the path you just noted, if not add it in.
True type font path should also be listed here.
Scroll down further until you see FONTPATH VEF.
Add in the fontpath as before.
This method is only if the installation did not enter the correct fontpaths as they stand after doing a full font install.
Make sure the option is checked to copy fonts to the hard drive otherwise the CD will always be needed.
I think that if the fonts have been saved to a different folder than the previous installation, any jobs opened won’t be able to find them but by adding in the paths above it might cure it.
It’s always a good idea to install to the default directories for this very reason.
Close Signlab and restart for changes to take effect.

    Thanks Peter.

I did as you suggested and the fonts are now all present without the need for the disc to be inserted, although they are not in their individual folders, Sans Serif, Serif Roman, Fancy, etc etc.

to get all of the fonts in groups, go to text compose and click the blue F in the top left corner. in the top section "Group", there is a drop down, this contains all the font groups, choose the one you want and click the select button, this will add that group to the listing you see. You will need to repeat for each group you want to show.
