Are these machines any good please? I have seen the forums about the Versacamm, Mimaki and others but not much about the Seiko.

    Hi,

I bought a second hand Seiko 64 a couple of years ago and sold it on after a few months to buy a secondhand Roland SP540V.
Seiko is the same machine as a certain HP model (can’t remember which one.)
It is a machine that needed much cleaning as I didn’t use it enough. It was solvent inks that were terrible to breathe and also the technician said that it had to be in a warm/hot room all the time as he reckons that the inks were not stable enough ???
I sold it to a company who already had one and printed newspaper type magazines, he said that it needed to print for 12 to 20 hours a day if not 24/24. I found it to print quite fast but was not impressed by the results as on long prints the colour at the beginning was not always the same as the colour at the end.
I liked the way you changed the vinyle on it. Heavy machine to transport!
I do not regret the change for a roland sp540v but that is just me !
    Good luck

I can only echo what Andrew says. The Seiko 64S (IP6600) is the same as the HP9000S and while it is a very capable machine, it’s head are not variable dot and the maintenance and parts replacement for it are not as easy as the Mimaki and Roland equivalents. Having said that, if you’re blatting out solid colour prints all day every day, the machine will be great!! Faster and more rugged than it’s competition.

Thank you for your replies. I had an inkling this may not be the machine for me.
