5 Channels – 4 Channels?
I occasionally come up with an issue when printing from pdfs supplied.
The message that comes up says:-
"Colour channels in this Job 5
Colour channels in this device 4
This may not render properly"If I go ahead and print – some areas are a different colour to the pdf when viewed on screen
I’m guessing that this means the artwork I am using contains both cmyk information and a spot colour (Hence 5 channels) and as my printer is a cadet using cmyk (4 inks) this is the reason for the message?
Can anyone explain – and also suggest anything I can do to correct the problem?

I don’t know for sure but I think you’re right. Many spot colour cannot be reproduced accurately as cmyk therefor the colour shift when printed.
Can you import the pdf into Corel Draw, you should be able to see the colours used and alter accordingly

To check in Adobe Acrobat Pro:
Tools – Print Production – Output Preview.
Will show CYMK plates/channels and any spot colours that can mess up the CYMK printing profiles. -

I have been able to open the file up in Signlab to edit it and my client has agreed that I can alter some of the colours.

I may have mentioned this before but Pstill – http://www.pstill.com/ is very good at processing difficult pdf files and excellent at converting fonts to curves and flattening transparencies first if you have issues trying to import into Draw or Illustrator. It also has pdf info which will tell you fonts used, colour models etc. I’ve been using ita while and it has either sorted problems completely or at least gave me some workable parts I can use.
