  • Stretch Marks in vinyls, advice please?

I’ve noticed a few stretch marks when we’ve applied vinyl lately.

It’s happened with Avery Supreme when wrapping a bonnet, around the windscreen wash jets, and today using Metamark 7 Series vinyl when flood coating a panel.

Where the vinyl lifts from the panel onto the higher object we get unsightly lines along there. I would describe as stretch marks.

No amount of heat/squeegeeing helps, and there’s no air trapped there.

Image attached of today’s van where the vinyl was applied in a panel with a sliding door.

    Suggestions welcome!

    David
i don’t wrap but i would say its leaving traces of glue behind as you lift it so you get the said result when you lay it back down, but i will be interested if anyone as another view

    I’m not very interesting so I don’t have a different view 😳

David soon as I read the post I wondered if it could be glue, that was before I read Kevin’s post, I’ve had glue marks that look exactly like the ones you have posted when I have applied vinyl to a substrate & had to lift it from the substrate while applying.

    It could be.

I’m thinking how we applied it though, the vinyl wasn’t lifted from the body work where the line is. We lifted the excess off the recess and then worked from where it was applied towards the recess.

Example was the water jets on the wrapped bonnet, the vinyl wasn’t lifted off the paint, we just made a hole for the jet and worked the vinyl towards it.

I will try and do some experiments.

just my view you can not wrap a bonnet with the washer jets in place remove them.

looks like compression marks as apposed to stretch some people call them fingers shrink them out as you come to the end of the panel. but then again i get them some times. cos i am not perfect
