I saw this, or alternative model by the same company at the Robert Horne Open Day in Manchester recently. It is the Wide Format Memjet printer.
In the following video you can see it printing onto what looks like Gloss Paper.
It prints the width of the machine approx 42inches by 12inches per second!

From memory there are 5 staggered heads spanning the width of the machine.
so the heads do NOT move like we normally see.
i.e. the heads shooting side to side as the media slowly trundles through the gantry.
this time the heads are stationary and its the vinyl that does the moving.

anyway, have a look at it running in real time, gives a glimpse of what we might see on vinyl some day soon. I think i heard them quoting around £65,000 for this one at the show. ideal machine for a busy print shop as it prints a typical A1 size print in 2-4 seconds!

😮 😮 😮 Looks like it’s already printed and they are just running the vinyl through the machine that’s mental!!

It is very impressive but I do not think we have a floor slippery enough for that!

The speed is absolutely increadable but how on earth could you fit or finish the vinyl fast enough to keep up……..never mind re loading rolls of vinyl!

memjet is awesome but if a nozzle goes can cause a line…

the big Inca is very similar, rows of heads… 4 pass 8′ 4′ sheet in seconds

I’ve got a Memjet narrow label printer.

All I would say is the concept is great. But if you have to print day in day out and come from the digital side of things where you usually hit print and your machines prints then you will be in for a bit of a learning curve with the initial Memjet technology setup in the machines on offer.

They will need to implement some sort of nozzle drop out detection and compensate with other nozzles or use a staggered head setup so a nozzle blockage doesn’t cause a print imperfection.

But I will say they are blinding fast. If they make it to the wide format area and using UV resistant inks a lot of printers will be made redundant.

Also, can you imagine "that colour is not quite right"…….too late, 20 metres of wrap wasted……aaaargh! 😀
