    Hi,

Could do with a little bit of help. I’m running Omega 1.5 (yes I know its old, but it does everything I need!! πŸ™‚ ) and need to know if there are any programs like Adobe / CorelDraw etc which allow .plt files to be imported. I’m planning on upgrading to a Cadet and use CorelDraw 12. I know I can go in to the Omega software and save as .ai but this will be very time consuming!!!
    Any help / suggestions appreciated.

Jase, been in the same boat…. the PLT format that the Gerber software uses is their own format, not the HPGL PLT format that you see within AI or Corel.

The process of export ai, then import ai isnt that bad and works well… should take seconds really.

Signlab will import and rip plt files, they worked fine when I swapped from omega to signlab, try a demo, see if it works for you.

    Jason,

Passing this along as it may help save some time in converting your .plt based files to the .ai format. There is a utility called File Convertor that is part of the Omega Suite of software and I think it should be titled β€œFileConverter.exe”. This utility is not part of the protected area of the software, so you can execute without the security key being present. πŸ˜‰

This utility does what the name implies; converts files from one format to another. I have found it to be much quicker to convert files with File Convertor then to Open/Save As/Export directly within Composer. The biggest benefit in my opinion, and where the real efficiency comes in to play, is its ability to do batch conversions. Simply select ALL plt files in one folder and have the utility convert them for you in one click. Huge time savor and the added benefit of never having to go into Composer once to achieve the conversion!

As affirmation to Peter’s CADlink mention, beside Gerber proper, CADlink is the only vendor that I’m aware of to fully support the .plt file format. They have invested the needed resources to ensure Gerber customers that have legacy files can take those assets into CADlink programs and retain file integrity. While Flexi also supports the .plt format, it is my opinion and in its current state, that full integrity can’t always be counted on. πŸ™
