    Hola all,

I’m thinking about buying an Epson 400 ink jet printer as I’ve heard some reasonably good reports about this little beast. has anyone out there got any experience of these. I need to know whether to splash out a grand and a half to print things like full colour flyers and business cards and the like. Can this printer print onto glossy papar and card (other than photo paper) and if so, does the ink run when it gets damp as it does with an ordinary ink jet? Otherwise does anybody know if there’s another printer I should look at first. Any input would be gratefully received.

    T’ra for now

    Feliz Navidad Amigos

    400 or 4000?
The 4000 can print on stuff up to 1.5mm thick.
As a production printer its a very expensive beast to run , the inks costs will be horrendous and initial purchase price is hig.
A 1290 will do more or less the same thing , tho doesnt have a flat path – still is an expensive printer to run unless you convert to bulk inks. You can also convert a 1290 to run mild or full solvent inks which would be waterproof.
These are mainly photo printers and are slow as well , the 4000 is more for archival type artwork for galeries and photographers etc , I can’t see one really making money doing cards or flyers with them. The 1290 using full solvents *Might* be able to print on vinyls , but the fact it doesnt have a straight path limits it severly.
You can work on about 15-20 ml of ink per sq meter (about 8 a4’s) for full coverage stuff, so can work out ink costs.
A full a3 at high resolution can take up to 15 mins to print!!!
