Wheelie Bins
Posted by Jim Clough on 26 November 2004 at 10:40Hi
For those with business premises, how much are you paying in total for hre and emptying of wheelie bins, and how often can you have them emptied? I recently took a contract for one and believe I’m being grossly overcharged.
Cheers

We pay about £6.50 per collection aswell, set up is a weekly collection and if we need it collected sooner we just call.

Here in Pennsylvania, I pay my bill every 3 months.
It just went up to $40.
The mini dumpster is emptied weekly.
I am also allowed to put out an additional standard
garbage can or two as well.

We used to hire a wheeled skip/bin from a company that collected weekly, cost about £8 a week. Reasonable sized bin 5′ x 3’x 3′ ish!!

Don’t throw any of your thanksgiving pies in your dumpster, if you have any left send them over – they looked great!!! 😀 Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

I have a small household type bin about 18in. x 24in. It works out rental £3 per month, Care & Admin. charge about £6.50 per month and £7.94 to empty. This is a lot considering the size of the bin. I was not told by the Rep. about the Care & Admin charge at the time.
Cheers

Jim, thats quite a bit 😮 This is the size of our bin and we just pay the fee of £6.50 +vat each time we need it emptied, no extra or hidden charges.

We had a contract with the council for a commercial wheelie bin, got taken over by private contractors and the rates went sky high.. had to fill in loads of forms to say what we were disposing of etc… nothing but hassle..
We gave up in the end and bought an incinerator..£1200 but had it 3 years and burns everything down to a fine ash which just goes in the regular wheelie bin that is supplied.
One of our best buys. -
Thats a 1100 litre bin the same as ours, same price as you guys.
I was using BIFFA but once a year I was getting a demand for an extra £80.00 a year for some sort of (stealth)tax. When I went to the council to see what prices they charged they were about £2 a week cheaper and didn’t charge the stealth tax as this should be bourn by the company and not the customer, robbin barstewards (biffa) now I am quite happy for the council to collect and are surprisingly more reliable too!

We pay about £150 pounds a year to get our wheelie bin emptied twice a week (Tuesdays and Friday) by the local council (that’s on top of business rates we already pay for our premises) . Trouble is they don’t bother checking that the bin is emptied – many a time I’ve found the lower half compacted and still in place (only today in fact) – typical council employees 🙄 All living off the ratepayers and tax payers money without doing a proper job just like DVLA inspectors :lol1:

I have the same sized bin as carries and pay just under 6 quid a week for one empty plus the dreded vat, and it was a 50 quid set up / admin charge

Jumpin’ Steve Flash, King of the Wheelie Bin.
Or is that a Steve-In-The-Box?
My dumpster doesn’t come with a built-in compacter.
I’m jealous.

Built in compactor :lol1:
I havent had the privelege of jumping in it yet 😕 but I probably wouldnt be able to get back out after getting in :lol1: that would be a sight to see ….. 😛

We have two of the 1100 litre bins emptied once a week by the local council. The first one costs £6.40 per week and the second £4.00.
If there is any more rubbish we just bag it and, although they’re not supposed to, the refuse boys take it anyway. I find that slipping them a few quid at Christmas improves the service tremendously.
Our bins have the built-in compactor too. (hot)

I used to work in the waste industry for years! £6.50 is probably about the right price now for non-compacted waste, for one bin. Plus you will have the Duty of Care Admin charge on top of that.
It doesn’t really make too much difference on the size of bin – from 120 litre to 1100 litre.
If you are paying about £6.50 for compacted waste, you are getting a good deal.
A large proportion of the disposal cost is landfill tax (which is charged by weight), so if you know that your bin is light (i.e. just paper etc), you might be able to haggle the price down abit.
Be careful if you phone around for quotes as a lot of companies charge really low initially, but then you get stung with a price increase every quarter – at which stage there isn’t much you can do because you would have signed a contract at the beginning…..read the small print!!
