noticed that sometimes uksb member put their e mail addresses directly onto the board. Thing is, this is then easy for spammers to trawl. It is a good idea, never to publish your email ady on the web, much better to pm if you need to give it to another member.
dont make it easy for them

    Peter,

never really thought about that! 😕 I don’t shed loads to be honest but any prevention measures are good to hear!

I think mine will be going fornow!

How is sunny Luton? Which part are you in again? I was in Leagrave today!

Couldnt agree more mate. there is many reasons this site is run the way it is. spamming is only one.. believe me. 😕
over the last 3 years i have had every type of problem, aimed at the “visitors” here om this site.

sales spamming is only one like i have said.
    how about,
using members emails and sending viruses.
using emails and subscribing to porn sites and all the junk of the day.
using members profile details to access sites.
using members details to login on other sign sites and causing bother?
using members details to call them at home/work to try and sell their services?
they have all been done and more…

the problem i have is, how can i enforce people should register on this site & will only be successfull if i all details are filled and must be 100% genuine?
i cant, people dont trust the net, and why should they? there is so much crap going on…. if i enforce it, then it is my job to make sure these are kept hidden/safe & i now believe they are.

i know 99% of sites do not boether. well i like being that 1% 😉

signatures should only be that.. a signature.

I seen some signatures with nearly all the contact details there.

    web addresses etc

isn`t that using the board to advertise their products.

no offence ment, but people like brian from impact pay to advertise here…

yes your right Becky.. if i see them i do, email them and ask to remove.
if there is still some on the go ive overlooked.

agreed, Brian at impact pays to advertise on the home page. just another reason why spamming should not be tolerated. why should someone like Brian pay for an advert while others go the free spamming route?

one of the good thing i think has been achieved on this site is that
the rules are, if asked first, we can recommend, but not ourself.
it happens from time to time but it is minimal, unlike many other sites were the boards are polluted by suppliers recommending themselves under false names. some even as sign makers. many will remember Lizzie at KPMF leading us all a merry dance for about a month?
we want genuine replies/help and advice, backed by facts & experiences.

Becky, I wasnt talking about the advertising issue, just a friendly warning that its not a good idea to post your addy on the net. unless you are prepared for spam, all companies get loads of it, its worse than cold calling via the dog and bone, the web is a great big yellow pages, and if you want a free listing, thats fine. Only give out your email address to people you trust, otherwise its better to stay “ex directory”
